Every Unite Scholar is paired with a trained Unite mentor who is available to him/her at all times throughout their years with Unite. This mentor provides extensive emotional and social support to each scholar and arranges all logistics -- from the student's transport to and from school and Unite trainings to extra tutoring support, internships, university application support, and more.
Unite scholars travel to Dar es Salaam for intense life skills and leadership trainings during school holidays. Training includes the Unite Soft Skills of Professionalism curriculum and opportunities to engage in internships at the Unite Food Program and other businesses and organizations to learn real-life professional skills.
Unite teammates, scholars, and extended family members who have proven small businesses are eligible to apply for interest-free loans to help them grow and further develop their enterprises.
School books, notepads, calculator, stationary, pens, pencils, and a backpack for a Unite Scholar for a year.
All Unite Scholars must have working cell phones in order to communicate with their mentor, receive training information, and access online lessons.
All secondary-level students attending government boarding schools must arrive with their own mattresses, bedding, and mosquito nets. Students use travel trunks to transport and store their personal items.
Unite Scholars all attend government secondary schools in Tanzania where they are required to wear specific uniforms and shoes depending on activity.
Unite scholars often live quite far from their secondary-level boarding schools. Unite provides them funds for safe transport to and from school, to go home for all school holidays, and to travel to and from Dar es Salaam for Unite trainings and internships.
Each Unite scholar consults with our team to create a business plan to launch a small business. Once business plans are approved, scholars receive a modest grant to launch that business. Over the years our scholars have been extremely successful with their entrepreneurial endeavors which have ranged from poultry and sewing to bakeries and small restaurants, rental of solar panels, farming, and more.
Undergarments, toiletries, and personal hygiene items for a Unite female scholar.
Secondary-level students in Tanzania are required to arrive at government schools with their own buckets (for bathing, cleaning, and fetching water) and brooms, grass slashers/machetes, and hoes to assist with the cleaning and maintenance of school grounds.
There is a waiting list of schools across East Africa wanting to start Unite Clubs. Each new club required a laptop and projector, speakers and a microphone, a smartphone, notebooks and pens, T-shirts, and printed bound books of the Unite Soft Skills of Professionalism program. Unite clubs also engage in tree planting campaigns to reforest areas stricken by desertification.
Unite Food Program is in need of a small truck to safely transport food products across Dar es Salaam and the country beyond. Gifts may be made in increments to reach this goal.
