ALAO Book Drive
October 27, 2017
Welcome to our SoKind registry! The ALAO Conference Planning Committee is partnering with the Conscious Connect (http://www.theconsciousconnect.org/) for a conference service project.
The Conscious Connect, Inc. is a 21st Century innovative urban library ecosystem — that creates and sustains literary oases in low-to-moderate income neighborhoods and communities to end book deserts. Their projects have specific needs for culturally-relevant books to distribute throughout West Dayton and South Springfield.
There are two ways to participate in the 2017 conference service project:
1. Purchase a book or books included on this registry. Claim the book(s) on this registry. Bring the book(s) with you to the conference on Oct. 27.
2. Donate online to The Conscious Connect's Reading Park Project fundraiser. See the first item in the registry and click on the gofundme link provided below the description. ALAO is unable to process monetary donations on site at the conference.
This website compiles our list of specific needs, but does not sell the books. If you would like to 'claim' a book, be sure to click on the 'Give this gift' button so the gift will be claimed in your name, and so that we won't receive duplicates.
Any links provided with the books are for informational purposes only. The committee does not endorse any specific outlet for buying the books.
Thank you for your interest in helping ALAO and the Conscious Connect, Inc. end book deserts.
**When making a donation, please add to the Comment field on the gofundme page: Academic Library Association of Ohio.**
The Reading Park Project will promote education, peace and culture through the revitalization, beautification and activation of an underutilized space. Through the power of community building, we will establish a creative and communal space for children, youth and families to engage in educational, cultural and civic activities; which will cultivate communal ownership of safety zones and restore neighborhood pride within The Greater Miami Valley Communities.
Return on Investment:
1. Increased educational investment through cultural civic and social exploration.
2. Increased property value through the revitalization of abandoned land and properties.
3. Reduction of crime with designated neighborhood safety zones and community ownership and empowerment.
4. Restoration of community pride through the beautification of local neighborhoods.
5. Proactive and positive relationship building between residents, public servants and local officials.
