Patrons' Paws - MS-MD April 2017

April 23, 2017
Welcome to our SoKind registry! This website compiles our list of gift requests, but does not sell the gifts. If you would like to 'claim' a gift, be sure to click on the 'Give this gift' button so the gift will be claimed in your name, and so that we won't receive any duplicates. Then, you can follow our instructions on how or where to give the gift. Thank you!
We are looking for several people each to volunteer to foster a dog brought back from the Oxford-Lafayette Humane Society shelter. The commitment would begin on April 30. You would provide basic food, shelter, interaction, socialization and love while helping to find a forever home for the dog.
We will work with you to match you to a dog appropriate for you and help to connect you to other fosters or dog sitters who could step in if you should need to go away for a few days or end your fostering before the dog finds a family.
Find your next member of the family. Share your couch and your heart with a dog from the Oxford-Lafayette Humane Society. Dogs will be transported from Mississippi to Maryland at the end of April. You can work with us to select your pet and get to know the dog vicariously through our volunteer work at the shelter so we can ensure a great adoption experience.
Any unwanted or unused collars, harnesses or leashes (any style, color, size) you can donate for this project would be greatly appreciated. You can send collars to us at 8120 Craddock Road, Greenbelt, MD 20770 or directly to the shelter at Oxford-Lafayette Humane Society, 413 McElroy Drive, Oxford, MS 38655.
Get those pups smelling fresh and ready for a new home by providing shampoo.
Any pet shampoo will do- shampoos of all smells and sizes all over the place - maybe even under your bathroom sink.
If you have treats, bowls, paper or other things you wish to donate, click here and let us know via email albrozana@gmail.com what to expect to put it on our packing list (or tell the shelter to look for it in the mail).
Pedigree, Purina, Clorox, Purex, Dawn are just some of the name brand products mentioned, but ANY type of cleaning product that is safe for animals, ANY wet food brand, any type of litter, scrub brushes and more are all welcome
Some have asked why we established this registry to take cash donations for specific items rather than using the site in one of the ways it was intended: to allow people to purchase items from the list based on web links provided on the registry. It would allow us to still gather donations without handling cash.
We believe, however, this method will be more economical in the long run and allow us greater impact, having donor dollars go further and providing the most range of outreach for individuals who wish to contribute to the project.
We have several resources available to us including discount codes, coupons, memberships to big box stores, etc. that will help us keep in line with the costs we estimated for each item. We may even be able to save more and put additional funds toward the dogs who are brought back from the shelter (or if we have enough to cover all costs and then some, back to the shelter itself for their continued good work).
If you have coupons or connections where you could get other donations, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are more than happy to explore any option we can to keep the spending down and giving up!
If you find something at a lower price, please share the link or store information with us.
Some things (like bulk food, litter, crates, etc.) may have to be shipped to the shelter to allow us room in the car to transport donated and handmade items.
We thank you in advance for your generosity to the animals of the Oxford-Lafayette Humane Society shelter.
You are sponsoring a can or pouch of wet cat food
One set of collar and leash. Collar can fit up to medium sized dog. Leash is 4' log and 3/4" wide (not great for large dogs or dogs who pull)
Leashes are needed for on-the-spot adoptions so animals can go home with families who may not have the supplies with them, like collars, leashes and bowls, to get them through the first day or few days with their new pet.
Litter boxes are always needed.
Collars and harnesses are needed for on-the-spot adoptions so animals can go home with families who may not have the supplies with them, like collars, leashes and bowls, to get them through the first day or few days with their new pet.
They are also used by the shelter when adoptable animals are at off-site adoption events or are walked by volunteers.
The shelter would love this donation because the thousands of cats who come through each year certainly go through a lot of litter!
You are sponsoring 40 lbs. of clumping cat litter

You are sponsoring the purchase of a case of 24 scrub brushes
You are sponsoring the purchase of 100 cleaning cloths in a pack. Cleaning cloths are used in so many ways at the shelter and are used until they are threadbare.
You are sponsoring a 50 count tablet supply of the same great broad spectrum disinfectant as previously mentioned.
You are sponsoring one 15.6 lb pail of Purex powder detergent
The best broad spectrum cleaner for animal shelters on the market. A 10 lb bucket goes a long way and helps to kill viruses, fungi and bacteria that cause parvo, ringworm, kennel cough and pink eye. One bucket costs $105.
14" max. collars
4' leashes (3/4" wide)
Sponsor a dog making its freedom ride from the shelter to a foster home in the DMV area. Money will go toward the rescue fee, any vetting needed after they arrive and are in foster care (ex. heartworm medication monthly), to publicize the animals available for adoption (flyers, post cards, etc.) and all costs associated with getting these precious pups into homes. After all dogs have been placed successfully in homes for 6 months (adopted), any unused funds will be given to the Oxford-Lafayette Humane Society for their continued work to help animals in need.
Even if you cannot foster or adopt, consider helping as a sponsor.
