The Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society originally helped to bring Eastern European Jews to the US in the early 1900s. Now they are helping immigrants and refugees from Syria, Sudan, Iraq, Iran, etc. This is a fabulous organization and has partnered with numerous synagogue groups in Chicago to help our Muslim and Christian neighbors!
A fantastic organization providing full, intensive, legal and social services to youth in Chicago's North Lawndale community. Paul used to be a "Fellow" there!
A nonprofit after-school program run in many CPS schools, they "inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running."
Cure Violence workers directly intervene to defuse altercations between youth before they turn violent. Chicago had more homicides in 2016 than in the past 19 years, and this organization's model is both effective and grossly underfunded.
Non-profit organization that works for environmental advocacy, protection of natural resources, and environmental-human rights concerns such as working toward clean water in Flint, MI.
